The Boomerang Infrastructure
Boomerang has built an extremely secure and highly resilient network & server cluster to ensure maximum SLA availability at all times.
Redundant hardware has been installed at every tier to ensure Boomerang can still continue to function even with multiple server or network device / provider failures.
Our resilient network is configured with full failover using multiple upstream network providers including KPN, Level 3 and MaNAP.
We use the latest in Cisco technology to ensure we achieve a 99.999% network SLA.
Network security is a high priority on our agenda.
We use a dedicated Cisco firewall cluster configured to industry best practice, again using the latest in failover technology to provide resiliency and security.
In the unlikely event of a hardware failure at either network or Firewall level, a state full failover will occur; throughout external connectivity is maintained.
Boomerang is provisioned from our primary data centre which is located on the Manchester Technopark on the periphery of Manchester City Centre.
Our data centre is supplied by two diverse 6.6KV feeds from the national grid. Two 2MW Generators with at least 7 days supply of fuel, provide us with full capability to sustain long power outages.
Our APC infrastructure UPS units, in n+1 mode provide us with power to sustain load until the generator starts up as well as ensuring a clean electrical supply
N+1 Air conditioning is provided by under floor cooling, the air flow directed appropriately by grilles in the floor. The capacity of the equipment is such that a failure of one unit can be handled by the other units.
A full VESDA system that provides early detection of smoke is in place so that any potential fire is detected before it can develop. In the extremely unlikely event that a fire does develop a FM200 gas fire suppression system is triggered.
Just as important as network security is physical security, security staff are on site 24/7 with offsite backup to deal with any major event.
CCTV cameras (both internal and external), motion detection and a key fob access system ensures a high level of security with multiple layers of defence
The Boomerang Cluster
Boomerang uses the latest in Cloud clustering technology to ensure service reliability and provision.
Boomerang use’s Vsphere to ensure critical data is replicated and service distribution is in place along with Microsoft Server 2008, ASP.Net & SQL Server 2008 which power’s our service.
This not only allows Boomerang to scale upwards with demand it also allows for full service failover and disaster recovery, services which would not be available using a legacy single server solution.
Boomerang has the ability to replicate both on and offline data to standby nodes which can be used to restore full service within minutes in the event of a critical service failure.
We maintain gold support with platform vendors and operate to a strict patching & upgrade process to ensure service integrity.
Code integrity is review externally by Microsoft which complies with regular validation and accreditation.
Boomerang services are externally secured using industry standard SSL certificates, to ensure service integrity and client / server trust.
Boomerang Monitoring
We take our network & service SLA very seriously. As such, we have several levels of monitoring in-place to ensure that any issues are discovered at the earliest possible point, and specifically before they become service-affecting.
Every single router, switch, firewall and managed server is monitored internally. Any outages are notified to us instantly by e-mail and SMS to our on-call engineer.
In addition, we have external monitoring, which checks our critical routers and firewalls from five different worldwide locations.
For further peace of mind, we monitor saturation on links, with alerts being generated if critical links are acting unusually. This allows us to very quickly see any potential issues which may be arising, for example attacks, or compromised
